5 Ways Your Summer Reading Time Can Level Up Your Leadership

Reading leadership books can be an excellent way to level up your leadership skills this summer. Here are some tips on how to capitalize on your summer reading.

  1. Choose the right books: There are many leadership books out there, so it’s essential to choose the right ones. Look for books that have good reviews and that are written by reputable authors.  Three of my favorites are:

The Leadership Challenge: Sixth Edition – How to Make Extraordinary Things Happen in Organizations by James M. Kouzes and Barry Z. Posner

The Emotionally Strong Leader: An Inside-out Journey to Transformational Leadership by Carolyn Stern

Essentialism: The Disciplined Pursuit of Less by Greg McKeown

  1. Read widely: Don’t limit yourself to one type of leadership book. Read books that cover a variety of topics, such as communication, emotional intelligence, delegation, decision-making, and teamwork. This will help you develop a well-rounded understanding of leadership.
  2. Take notes: As you read, take notes on key concepts, strategies, and techniques that you can apply in your leadership role. This will help you remember what you’ve learned and apply it to your work.
  3. Discuss with others: Share what you’ve learned with colleagues or friends who are also interested in leadership development. Discussing what you’ve read can help solidify your understanding of the material and provide opportunities for feedback and new perspectives.
  4. Apply what you’ve learned: Finally, apply what you’ve learned from the books in your leadership role. Put the strategies and techniques into practice and see how they work for you. Don’t be afraid to experiment and adjust your approach as needed.

What are you reading this summer?
