Character strengths provide the way for developing all other strengths.
There are five different types of strengths:
- Strengths of talent—your innate abilities
- Strengths of interest—what you like to do
- Strengths of skill—proficiencies you develop
- Strengths of resources—external supports
- Strengths of character—attributes, an aggregate of who you are; what’s inside of you
Research shows….
…..that your greatest successes are the result of using your unique strengths and that humans share the same basic twenty-four character strengths. The difference is how much you have of each one. The most commonly held character strengths are kindness, fairness, gratitude, and open-mindedness.
Practice:
- Kindness: cook a delicious meal for yourself and others
- Fairness: encourage equal participation of everyone in a meeting
- Gratitude: tell a friend three things you appreciate about them
- Open-mindedness: play devil’s advocate on an issue you have strong opinions about.
